Beginning life and works

Sarah was born to an Iranian father, Abbas Shahi and mother Mahmonir Jahansouz of Spanish and Persian origin. The couple divorced when Sarah was just ten years old. Her great-great grandfather was a nineteenth century, King of Iran, named Fath Ali Shah Qajar. Her real name, Aahoo is the Persian name for gazelle.

Sarah went to study at Trinity High School after which she attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, from where she majored in Opera and English. Her career began when she was in her teens and won in 1997, Miss Fort Worth USA pageant. Then she joined the 1999 - 2000 squad of Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and even featured on there 2000 calendar cover.

Career

Sarah met director Robert Altman, working as an extra on the sets of Dr. T and the Women. With Robert’s encouragement she moved to Hollywood and then to Los Angeles where she worked on variety of TV series.

She worked in films like: Dr. T and the Women (2000), Old School (2003), A Lot Like Love (2005), The Dog Problem (2006), For Your Consideration (2006) and AmericanEast (2007) etc.

Also in TV shows like: City Guys (Shock Treatment, 2000), Spin City (Blind Faith, 2000), Boston Public (Chapter Eleven, 2001), Off Centre (A Cute Triangle, 2001), Maybe It’s Me (The Exchange-Student, 2001), Alias (seven episodes, 2001-2002), Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003), Wednesday 9:30 (8:30 Central) (Chinese Baby, 2002), Frasier (Door Jam, 2003), Dawson’s Creek (four episodes, 2003), Reba (To Tell You the Truth, 2004), Supernatural (Pilot, 2005), The L Word (2005-2007), Teachers (six episodes, 2006), Sleeper Cell (2006), The Sopranos (Kennedy and Heidi, 2007) and Life (2007- present) etc.

She also has done print assignments with Curve, Maxim, Men’s Fitness and Muscular Development. She has been a former NFL cheerleader too.

The Life Tv Show
Shahi is currently enacting the lead role of Det. Dani Reese in police drama, Life. Reese is director superior officer and the new partner of Detective Charlie Crews. She is recuperating from alcohol and drug addiction. Her father Jack Reese was in the police department as well. In the starting, Reese does not approve of Crews much and even doubts him at times but slowly they bond up well and make up a good team. Shahi feels connected with this character as she once said, “I like the fact that she has a dark side and she has some demons that she needs to overcome”.

Personal life

Shahi is fluent in Spanish, Persian and English. After her parents divorced, she grew up with her mother. She even holds a brown belt in karate. She is married to actor Steve Howey, whom she first met in 2004 at the sets of Reba and the couple is expecting a child in 2009. The Maxim magazine listed her as no. 90 in their list of “Hot 100 of 2005″ but the very next year she was moved up to no. 66.
